It’s a great day for Stanhope State Hockey!
We’re excited to bring you the inaugural season of the Stanhope State Watermelon Warriors hockey here on campus! Many have asked about the team, so we put together this post to get you all set for the season.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Stanhope State Hockey program was started by the team captain Todd Henderson, a longtime supporter of our fine institution of higher learning. For the past few years, he has been applying for a squad to play in the Central Iowa D-League. During the application process, he asked permission from school administration officials to start the program and be named for Stanhope State. This year, the team officially made the league and are off to a great start!
The team is comprised of all central Iowa players who are picked through a competitive draft. All games are played on Sundays at the “Madhouse on Hickman” Buccaneer Arena in Urbandale. The schedule for the first half of the 32-game season is below.
GOING TO THE GAMES
Join fellow Stanhope Staters in the Student Section on Sundays! Doors open 15 minutes before game start time. Again, the schedule is below. Admission to attend and parking is FREE. Enter through the SE entrance and exit the game through the NE doors. Masks and social distancing required. Seats are well marked and lots of space to distance and enjoy. The Central Iowa D-League has worked very hard to get this season off the ground, we ask students and alumni to comply so that the teams can continue to play. Concessions and the Lounge at Buccaneer Arena will be available soon. Don’t forget to your your SSU gear and cowbells are welcome and strongly encouraged.
